The country music world stood still in June of 1993.

That month, Conway Twitty succumbed to an abdominal aortic aneurysm, two months before the release of what became his final studio album, Final Touches

His passing was extremely sad for country music fans and artists alike. Countless artists looked up to him as inspiration and many called him a friend. One of those people was George Jones

Four months after Twitty's passing, Jones included a cover of Twitty's signature song "Hello Darlin'" on his album, High-Tech Redneck. He performed it for the first time at the CMA Awards that year.

Vince Gill introduced Jones and said some nice words.

"Thank goodness for George Jones. I'll tell you what, he's just recorded a new album, and he's gonna sing one of the numbers for us tonight. And I'll tell ya, to me, it's the most poignant, poignant thing of the entire evening."

Audience members including June Carter Cash and The Judds cried as Jones mustered up the ability to perform the heart-wrenching tribute. The song, which had to be hard for Jones to get through, was received well by the crowd, who gave him a standing ovation after the performance.

Watch the heart-wrenching tribute below.

Lyrics Below

Hello Darlin'
Nice to see you
It's been a long time
You're just as lovely
As you used to be.

How's your new love
Are you happy
Hope your doin' fine
Just to know it
Means so much to me.

What's that Darlin'
How am I doin'
Guess I'm doin' alright
Except I cant sleep
And I cry all night 'til dawn.

What I'm trying to say
Is I love you and I miss you
And I'm so sorry
That I did you wrong.

Look up Darlin'
Let me kiss you
Just for old time sake
Let me hold you
In my arms one more time.

Thank you Darlin'
May God bless you
And may each step you take
Bring you closer
To the things you seem to find.

Goodbye Darlin'
Gotta go now
Gotta try to find a way
To lose these memories
Of a love so warm and true.

And if you should ever find it
In your heart to forgive me
Come back Darlin'
I'll be waitin' for you...
