Lynn Anderson's passing this summer took the country music world by surprise.

It was a surprise because just a few days before her passing, she did an interview on a radio show saying she has many more years of performing ahead of her.

Since then, her signature song, "Rose Garden" has been covered by many artists. Martina McBride became one of those artists when she stopped by The Grand Ole Opry on September 15th. As she was introducing her next song, she said,

"Somebody asked me backstage what some of my favorite memories of being on the grand ole opry are. After I released this album that I had out called Timeless, I got to do a whole show here at The Grand Ole Opry, and I got to sing with Ray Price and Connie Smith and Lynn Anderson, which was a thrill for me, so I want to sing this tonight to honor Miss Lynn Anderson."

Martina does an amazing job covering Anderson's 1970 chart-topping hit, which had huge success in both country and pop genres. "Rose Garden" remains one of the most successful country crossover recordings of all time.

Watch the touching tribute below.

Lyrics Below

I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain some time
When you take you gotta give so live and let live
Or let go oh-whoa-whoa-whoa
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden

I could promise you things like big diamond rings
But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover
So you better think it over
Well if sweet-talkin' you could make it come true
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter
But what would it matter
So smile for a while and let's be jolly
Love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can

I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain some time

I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden

I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon
But if that's what it takes to hold you
I'd just as soon let you go
But there's one thing I want you to know
You better look before you leap, still waters run deep
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out
And you know what I'm talkin' about
So smile for a while and let's be jolly
Love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can

I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain some time,
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
