Charles Esten is definitely a man of many talents.
Before he was the acting superstar he is today, Charles was a singer-songwriter from Pittsburg with big dreams.
Between 1985 and 1988, Charles was the lead singer of his college band, but after three years he decided to put music on the back burner and pursue a career in acting.
Charles made his big break in 1992 on Whose Line Is It Anyway and since then has appeared in some of TVs biggest shows, including, "Cheers", "Star Trek", "Party of Five", and "ER". But most recently, Charles was given a lead role on ABC's "Nashville" as Deacon Claybourne. The role instantly gave him the chance to dive back into his musical roots.
In the behind the scenes interview below, Charles explains how "Nashville" helped him kick off his musical career. He said,
We were shooting the very first episode of Nashville, the pilot, and behind the great Rayna James, was a bunch of guys with guitars and basses and drums. Every other show I've ever been on, those would have been a bunch of extras, these guys could not only play but they toured with the best.
The band, Sixwire, has been active since 2000, and has worked with some of country's biggest names, including Tim McGraw, Pam Tillis and Phil Vassar.
Alongside the band's lead, Steve Mandile, Charles wrote and released his newest single, "Hot One".
The steamy song is perfect for those hot summer days, and as Charles says, "I immediately started thinking of those real hazy, lazy days at the beach. Those mornings when you wake up and it's already hot."

Just woke up. Got a beer in my cup, ‘cause it’s already hotter than hell.
The AC’s gone, but the fan’s still on in this cheap beach motel.
So my boys and I climb in and drive down to milepost 5.
And I can feel the temperature rise.
It’s high noon now on this motel towel, and I just burned my feet.
There ain’t no breeze. ‘Bout a hundred degrees.
Let’s go get something to eat.
There’s some girls, by the shore, that we met before.
There were three. Now there’s more.
And they’re bringing us beer.
Good Lord, looks like…
It’s gonna be a hot one!
Living it up while the sun beats down.
Bring a cooler if you got one.
Ain’t nothing else to do in this one beach town.
All I need is a girl in front of me, sand under me.
Yeah it’s gonna be hot.
The sun’s long gone but the party goes on in the firelight.
She holds my hand, while we sit in the sand.
Yeah, it’s a pretty good night.
And our friends are all near, drinking beer by the pier.
And she says in my ear, “Why don’t we get outta here?”
It’s gonna be a hot one. It’s gonna be a hot one.
Wanted a girl, and now I got one.
And she’s a hot one, hot one, hot one!
