It doesn't get much better than a Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson duet.... unless you add Terry Allen in the mix...

The Jason and Sturgill are legends in the bluegrass and folk world, and when together, create something more amazing than we could ever imagine! In a recent article, Rolling Stone dubbed the two, The Kings of Americana, and we couldn't agree more!

At a recent show in Tuscaloosa, AL., the duo shared the stage and surprised the audience with an epic performance of a Terry Allen classic, "Amarillo Highway".

The two traded the song's lyrics in the first half of the performance, and switched to a guitar battle between Jason and guitarist, Laur Joamets, as the song came to a close.

Although the cover was very different from Terry's original, the alternative country/southern rock spin on the song made the performance one for the books!

In 1979, singer-songwriter Terry Allen released the double album, Lubbock (On Everything). The album featured the classic, "Amarillo Highway", which was written by Terry himself. Originally released on Fate Records, the album had a comeback in 1995 and was released by Sugar Hill Records.

We can only hope that Jason and Sturgill join forces more often!

Check out the amazing performance below.

LYRICS BELOW

I'm a high straight in Plainview
Side bet in Idalou and a fresh deck in New Deal
Yeah, some call me high hand an' some call me low hand
But I'm holdin' what I am, the wheel

'Cause I'm pan handlin', man handlin'
Post holin', high rollin', dust bowlin' daddy
And I ain't got no blood veins
I just got them four lanes of hard Amarillo Highway

Yeah, I don't wear no Stetson but I'm willin' to bet son
That I'm a big a Texan as you are
'Cause there's a girl in her bare feet sleep on the back seat
And that trunk is full of Pearl and Lone Star

'Cause I'm pan handlin', man handlin'
Post holin', high rollin', dust bowlin' daddy
And I ain't got no blood veins
I just got them four lanes of hard Amarillo Highway

So gonna hop outta bed, pop a pill in my head
Yeah, bust the hub for the golden spread under blue skies
Gonna stuff my hide behind some power glide
An get some southern fried back in my eyes

'Cause I'm pan handlin', man handlin'
Post holin', high rollin', dust bowlin' daddy
And close I'll ever get to heaven is makin' speed up ol' 87
Of that hard ass Amarillo Highway
