Blake Shelton felt like a bit of a fool for pairing up two country girls during the last battle rounds performance on the current season of the Voice.
One of the team members Shelton placed in the battle was high school student Emily Ann Roberts, who caught his attention and earned a spot on his team with her stunning rendition of Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance."
Roberts partner in the battle was Nashville native Morgan Frazier, who captivated Shelton with her country twist on the classic rock song, "Want You To Want Me."
Shelton knew that pairing the two singers up would make for a good battle, but he didn't think about how hard it would be to chose a winner.
The two girls sang the Patty Loveless hit "I'm That Kind Of Girl," which was released in January 1991.
As Roberts and Frazier battle back and forth, each of them demonstrate that they have a great deal of power in their voices, despite being so young.
Both of them also have great stage presence, interacting well with one another and the audience. By the end of the performance, the crowd is clapping along with them as they sing.
Once the battle ends, Shelton turns to his fellow coaches in hopes they will have something to say to make his choice a little easier, "say something good, help me."
Adam Levine, who always enjoys giving Shelton a hard time, has some not-so-helpful things to say:
"It was hard for me to decide what I enjoyed more, the performance, which was so stellar and amazing, or what a ding-dong Blake Shelton is for putting you guys on the same team. Because this is going to be an impossible decision that I really am going to enjoy giving him no help with making."
Since Shelton can't get any help from Levine, he reveals just how distressed he is over his decision, "I'm just heartbroken right now. There's vomit inside of my throat right now."
But like it or not, Shelton had to pick a winner. So who did he choose?
Emily Ann Roberts is the winner of the battle, and she remains on Team Blake!
"I chose Emily Ann because, being so young and sounding so unique, I just couldn't pass on the opportunity to continue to work with her," Shelton says.
But fans of Frazier have no need to worry. There was one coach who still had one steal left, and he took full advantage of it, claiming Frazier for his own team.
Morgan Frazier is now a part of Team Pharrell!
We are so glad that these two country girls are both continuing on in the Voice, and we can't wait to hear more from them in the weeks to come!
