During the ninth season of NBC's hit singing talent search show, The Voice, 'Blind Joe' (as he calls himself) stormed the auditions with his incredible country voice.

Now, as he has progressed through several stages of the competition, this North Dakota fella returned to the stage for a series of performances pitting artists against their other teammates called "Knockout" rounds.

In a knockout round, each contestant gets to perform a solo with a song of their own choosing and will go head-to-head to see who gives the best performance.

In Monday night's "Knockout" rounds, Blake Shelton's teams were paired so well, he had an incredibly hard time deciding who to choose.

Blind Joe picked a classic country ballad "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" which originally reached the No. 1 spot on the US Country Charts with Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson's cover duet.

His performance was an amazing tribute to these time-honored cowboys and their traditional country roots, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to save him.

“I have to make this decision based on one thing and that’s who I think sang the best just then and the winner of this knockout is Barrett,” Shelton said.

Even though he lost out to Barret Baber, his performance was nothing shy of incredible.

LYRICS BELOW

Cowboys ain't easy to love and they're harder to hold.
They'd rather give you a song than diamonds or gold.
Lonestar belt buckles and old faded levis,
And each night begins a new day.
If you don't understand him, an' he don't die young,
He'll prob'ly just ride away.

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys.
Don't let 'em pick guitars or drive them old trucks.
Let 'em be doctors and lawyers and such.
Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys.
'Cos they'll never stay home and they're always alone.
Even with someone they love.

Cowboys like smokey old pool rooms and clear mountain mornings,
Little warm puppies and children and girls of the night.
Them that don't know him won't like him and them that do,
Sometimes won't know how to take him.
He ain't wrong, he's just different but his pride won't let him,
Do things to make you think he's right.
