What happens when a pop star channels his inner country star? Something great!
In the video below, pop icon, Tom Jones, channels country icon, George Jones. Tom gives "He Stopped Loving Her Today" a pop twist, and it's stunning!
"He Stopped Loving Her Today" is arguably one of the greatest country songs of all time. Released in 1980 as the lead sing from George's album, I Am What I Am, the song was a huge hit, becoming George's first #1 in six years.
Following the passing of George in 2013, the song re-entered the US Hot Country Songs chart, peaking at #21.
In the 1960s, Tom Jones was one of the biggest pop singers of his time. With a string of over 35 top 40 hit songs, it was no surprise that when he took the stage to cover the iconic George Jones, it was great!
Although there will never be anything like the original, we're impressed with his cover and we're sure George would be too!
Check out pop legend, Tom Jones, singing George Jones in the video below.
And while you're at it, check out George's original rendition of the song, it will have y'all missing him more than ever!
He said I'll love you 'til I die She told him you'll forget in time As the years went slowly by She still preyed upon his mind.
He kept her picture on his wall Went half crazy now and then He still loved her through it all Hoping she'd come back again.
He kept some letters by his bed Dated 1962 He had underlined in red Every single I love you.
I went to see him just today Oh, but I didn't see no tears All dressed up to go away First time I'd seen him smile in years.
He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today.
Ya' know she came to see him one last time Oh, we all wondered if she would And it kept running through my mind This time he's over her for good.
He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today...
