Stonewall Jackson is a legend in the country music world.

With a string of hit songs, a name like Stonewall, and being the first singer to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry without a recording contract, it's no surprise that even after his 57 year career, we're still dazzled by his talent.

In the early 50s, Stonewall made a demo tape for Wesley Rose (president of Acuff-Rose Music). An impressed Wesley asked Stonewall to audition for the Opry and it didn't take long for everyone to recognize his talent!

By 1958 the honky-tonk singer had signed with Columbia Records, and debuted his first song, "Don't Be Angry", which was written by his brother. Although the song didn't top the charts, it gained him a ton of popularity.

Years later, and after many hit songs, Jackson performed "Don't Be Angry" on the Porter Wagoner Show and admitted it was the most important song of his career.

Porter Wagoner introduced the performance, "We were kind of talking and reminiscing a little about this next song Stone's going to do, and he was telling me it's the most important song of your career, isn't it?"

A proud Stonewall said,

I had a song that was number one in both markets but it's not as important as this song.

He continued,

We find it on jukeboxes and I'm real proud of it and my brother wrote it and I'm proud of that too.

This song is close to the heart, and you can hear it in his voice when he performs!

Check out the performance below.

LYRICS BELOW

Don't be angry with me darling
If I fail to understand
All your little whims
And wishes all the time

Just remember that I'm dumb
I guess like any foolish man
And my head stays sorta foggy
'Cause you're mine

Well I recall the first time
That I flirted with you dear
When I jokingly said
Come and be my bride

Now that time has turned the pages
It's the sweetest joke on earth
That I have you here
Forever by my side

Maybe someday you're gonna hurt me
I've been hurt in love before
Only God can know
And time alone will tell

But in the mean time I'll keep loving you
With all my heart and soul
And pray God to let it last
If it's his will

So don't be angry with me darling
If I fail to understand
All your little whims
And wishes all the time

Just remember that I'm dumb
I guess like any foolish man
And my head stays sorta foggy
'Cause you're mine
