Barrett Baber continues to captivate the Voice coaches and audience with his soulful voice and emotion-filled performances.
For his first live performance on the show, Baber chose to sing the tear-jerking song "I Drive Your Truck," by Lee Brice.
"I Drive Your Truck" was released in December 2012 as the third single off of Brice's album Hard 2 Love. The song ended up peaking at the #1 spot on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, and broke into the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
The co-writer of the song, Connie Harrington, felt inspired to write the song after she heard an interview with a father whose son died in Afghanistan. The father would always drive his son's truck to feel closer to him, which Harrington drew from to write the song.
Before Baber's performance, his coach, Blake Shelton connected with him over his own loss.
"Man I can relate to this song," Shelton says. "I mean, I lost my brother when I was fourteen years old."
Shelton is referring to his older brother, Richie Don Shelton, who passed away at the age of 24 in a fatal car accident.
"It's a big story to tell. I hope I do it justice," Baber says.
Even before Baber ever took the stage, Shelton had faith that he would do an amazing job with the song.
"For you to be the kind of guy that you are with your heart on your sleeve combined with a lyric like this, this should have been your finale song," Shelton says.
Baber definitely had his heart on his sleeve during his performance of the song. His emotion reallu shows through his movements, as he raises his hands to his face and closes his eyes when he sings particularly moving parts of the song.
Apparently, Baber's performance moved more people than just Shelton. On the results show on Wednesday night, it was revealed that Baber is continuing on in the competition, as one of only three members of Team Blake to do so.
Watch Shelton open up to Baber about his brother's death in the video below, and while you're at it, check out Baber's emotional performance of "I Drive Your Truck."
We can't wait to see what Baber will sing next!
