Talent definitely runs in the Nelson family.
Lukas and his band have recently been touring with Neil Young, and also performed as his backing band on his album The Monsanto Years.
Every now and then, Lukas will sing on his own, performing covers of popular songs. Just recently, Lukas shared a video on his band's Facebook page of him performing his personal rendition of the Ray Charles hit, "Georgia On My Mind."
"Georgia On My Mind" was recorded and released by Ray in 1960 on his album The Genius Hits The Road. The song had been around for a few decades before that, but Ray was the first to turn it into a number one hit.
Since Ray's version of the song was released, many other notable artists have gone on to release their own covers, including the Zac Brown Band, Crystal Gayle, and Lukas's dad, Willie. Willie's version of the song was released as a single in 1978 off of his album, Stardust. The song was a number one hit for Willie, and also earned him a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
Lukas's rendition of the song is stripped down and simple, as he softly plays along on the keyboard. Even though his voice is unique in his own right, you can still hear a hint of Willie's signature raspiness as he sings.
Watch Lukas perform his rendition of "Georgia on My Mind" in the video below, and then enjoy watching Willie's live performance of the song alongside Ray Charles.
With talent like that, and with Willie as a father, we have a feeling Lukas could go far!
