Team Pharrell means business!
Team Pharrell's Madi Davis shocked the audience with her haunting rendition of Jack White's version of "Love Is Blindness" during last night's Top 11 show. She began the performance by accompanying herself on the piano before letting the backing band take over so she could command center stage.
And command, she did. Even if you wanted to, you couldn't take your eyes off her and her majestic vocals. The way she effortlessly hits the high notes is so beautiful and the audience agrees.
"Love is Blindness" was originally written by U2's lead singer Bono, and meant for singer Nina Simone. When the band played it together, they decided to keep the song for themselves. Bono wrote it on the piano, which is an instrument he is not noted for playing.
Jack White famously covered "Love is Blindness" for a 2011 U2 tribute album and for The Great Gatsby's soundtrack. White has a known relationship with country legend Loretta Lynn, having looked up to her for many years. He produced and performed on her 2004 album Van Lear Rose, collaborated with her on other songs, and they were even honored with stars on the Music City Walk of Fame together.
Madi did this song justice in so many ways.
