The Christmas season is always an exciting time, as people young and old anticipate opening presents and eating Christmas candy. But in the midst of it all, the true meaning of Christmas is often forgotten, and Darius Rucker wants to make sure we remember it.
In October 2014, Rucker released his first Christmas album called Home For The Holidays, which was something he had wanted to do for a long time.
"I am so excited to finally make a Christmas album," said Rucker in an interview with Rolling Stone prior to the album's release. "This has been a lifelong dream, and I hope my fans enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making it."
On the album, Rucker covers many traditional Christmas songs such as "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" and "Winter Wonderland." In addition, Rucker chose to include a couple of original songs he helped co-write, including the song "What God Wants For Christmas."
In the jazzy, Sinatra-style tune, Rucker sings about watching all of the holiday hustle and bustle, when he sees a manager scene at a church, bringing his thoughts to the true meaning of Christmas. As the song continues, he wonders what God has on his Christmas list, like world peace and no more empty seats in church.
The music video for "What God Wants For Christmas" pairs well with the song, showing clips of Rucker decorating a tree and preparing presents for hospital patients. In some other clips, the video shows the hospital janitor who plays the part of Santa Claus, spreading holiday joy to the young patients.

As we go about preparing for Christmas, we'll keep Rucker's song in mind to make sure we remember the true reason for the season.
