We’ve seen a lot of country songs covered on Season 9 of NBC’s The Voice, but few have had the emotional impact that Shelby Brown’s had on Monday night’s episode (Nov. 30).
A member of Team Adam, Brown dedicated her performance of Vince Gill’s ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain’ to her late grandfather. She took two Twitter before taking the stage to share a photo of herself and her grandfather.
Shelby’s connection to the song made for a moving performance.
“I don’t know if it was the way it was set up, where you talked about what the song meant to you, but something tells me it was literally the way you performed it that this was your best performance,” coach Pharrell said. “You connected to the intention of the person who wrote this song.”
Brown’s coach Adam Levine said he was proud of his protégé. “Since the day we met, you’ve always been a singer whose potential astonished me. I have been trying to get you out of your own way. We chip away at it all the time. As your coach, I am so proud of you.”
Shelby Brown will find out tonight (Dec. 1) if her performance was good enough to earn her a spot in next week’s semi-finals. Watch Brown sing ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain’ below and let us know what you think!
