Cyndi Lauper has gone country!

Not something you thought you'd ever hear, but it is indeed true. The rocker has been recording her new country album Detour in Nashville, and decided to make a holiday 'detour' to one of Dolly Parton's classic Christmas songs, "Hard Candy Christmas".

The song "Hard Candy Christmas" was originally written by Carol Hall for the musical, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Parton played 'Miss Mona' in the film version of the musical in 1982. She then recorded the song as a Christmas single in that same year. It reached #8 on the country singles chart and remains a popular Christmas song to this day!

Even more exciting is the fact that the holiday tune is gaining recognition once again from one of the most influential female artists in the rock genre. Her crossover album has been anticipated for quite some time, and perhaps the meaning behind "Hard Candy Christmas" is a theme to be expected from the album.

"I just thought that it was one of those songs that can give you strength," Lauper said in an interview with Rolling Stone. "Somehow even if you freakin' put up a candy cane and one little Christmas light, it can make you feel better. It's such a wonderful song."

The release date for Detour has yet to be announced, but Lauper's cover of "Hard Candy Christmas" will be available for download on Friday, December 11, 2015.

LYRICS BELOW

Hey, maybe I'll dye my hair
Maybe I'll move somewhere
Maybe I'll get a car
Maybe I'll drive so far
They'll all lose track
Me, I'll bounce right back
Maybe I'll sleep real late
Maybe I'll lose some weight
Maybe I'll clear my junk
Maybe I'll just get drunk on apple wine
Me, I'll be just

Fine and Dandy
Lord it's like a hard candy christmas
I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow bring me way down

I'll be fine and dandy
Lord it's like a hard candy christmas
I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow bring me way down

Hey, maybe I'll learn to sew
Maybe I'll just lie low
Maybe I'll hit the bars
Maybe I'll count the stars until dawn
Me, I will go on

Maybe I'll settle down
Maybe I'll just leave town
Maybe I'll have some fun
Maybe I'll meet someone
And make him mine
Me, I'll be just

Fine and dandy
Lord it's like a hard candy christmas
I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow bring me way down

I'll be fine and dandy
Lord it's like a hard candy christmas
I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow bring me way down

I'll be fine and dandy
Lord it's like a hard candy christmas
I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow bring me way down

'Cause I'll be fine
(I'll be fine)
Oh, I'll be fine
