Although Kellie Pickler didn't have enough time on her hands (with two starring TV roles) to craft a full-length holiday album, this Christmas single is a gift in its own right!
The song was written by both Pickler and her husband Kyle Jacobs (a notable songwriter) back in July and brings listeners along as she recalls Christmases from her tumultuous childhood.
Called "My Christmas Caroline", it's about many holiday celebrations spent with her grandmother in North Carolina.
“[It’s] a Christmas song that we wrote back in July,” Pickler tells Rolling Stone Country. “… My grandmother raised me and was the one I called ‘Mom.’ It’s a sweet Christmas ballad about Christmas with her growing up."
With a twangy, old-time sound, Pickler's voice fits perfectly in the holiday ode. She remembers snow-covered pines, her cousin's laughter, grandmother's home cooking, and pokes fun at her grandpa's storytelling by playfully calling them "old lies".
Beyond her latest holiday single, Pickler has her hands full with her new reality TV show, I Love Kellie Pickler on CMT, and she's also working on a daytime talk show produced by Faith Hill!
Pickler rings in Christmas cheer with this expressive and heartfelt tribute to her childhood and her gratitude for what blessings she was given.
