She has been singing many of the country songs we all know and love for years. Sara Evans is a true artist, and her roots in country music are deep. This is exactly why Evans is so protective over the music she has loved for decades.
In an interview with Repository Entertainment editor Dan Kane, Evans discussed her position on what has been deemed "bro country". A style of mainstream country music that has taken influences from rock, pop, hip-hop, and electronic genres combined with country.
“Country music is the center of my world and my career and how I support my children. I’ve been in country music since I was born, and I’ve dedicated my life to this genre. And to be shut out because I’m female not singing about beer and trucks and dirt roads is absolutely heartbreaking. We need my genre.”
The debate over "classic country" v.s. "bro-country" has been heavily discussed over the past year. As we can see the talk isn't anywhere near over! For country artists like Evans, there is a part of the genre that needs more attention, and it doesn't involve beer, trucks, and dirt roads.
Listen to Evans' hit single "A Little Bit Stronger" below. The song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 2011.
