In the past, both Luke Bryan and Garth Brooks have been honored as Entertainer of the Year at the ACM and CMA awards. Anyone who has ever been to one of their shows can easily see why, since each of them always put on a fun show for their fans.

During a concert in Charlotte, North Carolina in September 2014, Bryan decided to pay tribute to his fellow entertainer by singing Brooks' hit song "Papa Loved Mama."

"Papa Loved Mama" was co-written by Brooks and songwriter Kim Williams, and was released in 1992 as the fourth single off of his album Ropin' In The Wind. The song ended up peaking at the third spot on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and claimed the 57th spot in the year-end rankings.

When Brooks included the song on his greatest hits album The Hits in 1994, he wrote a note explaining the story behind the song, and how it almost didn't get included on Ropin' In The Wind:

"This song is just total fun at a chaotic pace. Kim Williams and I were writing this song in the studio. We had just finished the Ropin' the Wind album, with the tenth cut being 'Walking After Midnight.' We had one session left over with no songs whatsoever. I asked Allen if I could do something screwy by playing this 'Papa Loved Mama' song. Kim Williams came in and we wrote the bridge right before we cut it. After we cut it, we knew that it had to make the album."

Now, "Papa Loved Mama" remains one of Brooks' most popular songs, and is apparently a favorite of Bryan, since he chose to perform it at his own concert.

Bryan jumps right into singing the song, but realizes he left out the first few lines. So he backs up and starts the song over again from the beginning, with his fans singing along. Bryan plays the piano as he sings, and the fans really seem to enjoy his toe-tapping rendition of the song, cheering for him at several points throughout the performance.

You can watch Bryan's performance of Brooks' "Papa Loved Mama" in the video below.

Brooks said that "Papa Loved Mama" is meant to be a fun song, and we'd say Bryan had fun performing it for his fans!

LYRICS BELOW

Papa drove a truck nearly all his life
You know it drove mama crazy being a trucker's wife
The part she couldn't handle was the being alone
I guess she needed more to hold than just a telephone
Papa called Mama each and every night
Just to ask her how she was and if us kids were alright
Mama would wait for that call to come in
When Daddy'd hang up she was gone again

Mama was a looker
Lord, how she shined
Papa was a good'n
But the jealous kind
Papa loved Mama
Mama loved men
Mama's in the graveyard
Papa's in the pen

Well it was bound to happen and one night it did
Papa came home and it was just us kids
He had a dozen roses and a bottle of wine
If he was lookin' to surprise us he was doin' fine
I heard him cry for Mama up and down the hall
Then I heard a bottle break against the bedroom wall
That old diesel engine made an eerie sound
When Papa fired it up and headed into town

Well the picture in the paper showed the scene real well
Papa's rig was buried in the local motel
The desk clerk said he saw it all real clear
He never hit the brakes and he was shifting gears

Mama was a looker
Lord, how she shined
Papa was a good'n
But the jealous kind
Papa loved Mama
Mama loved men
Mama's in the graveyard
Papa's in the pen
