Lynyrd Skynyrd have been international legends since their instantly recognizable single "Sweet Home Alabama" skyrocketed to the top of charts worldwide.

In 2005, the band held a concert in Gilford, New Hampshire and gave fans a one-of-a-kind performance. Johnny Van Zant powerfully belts out "The Needle And The Spoon"; a song that his late brother both wrote and recorded.

The track comes from the groups second album, Second Helping, which debuted in April 1974. The album was one of their most successful albums, reaching No. 12 on the charts and certified Gold that year. Second Helping featured notable tracks like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Don't Ask Me No Questions" and would later go on to achieve a 2X Platinum certification in 1987.

"The Needle And The Spoon" was written by Ronnie Van Zant during a time when the band itself was just learning about dangerous hardcore drugs. He writes the track as a warning of the devastating consequences the drugs have had on people.

Unfortunately Ronnie Van Zant and and three other members of the band were killed in a plane crash many years earlier. Van Zant's younger brother, Johnny has been the lead vocalist since the band's reunion in 1987.

Thirty days, Lord, and thirty nights
I'm coming home on an airplane flight
Mama waiting at the ticket line
Tell me son, why do you stand there cryin'?

It was the needle and the spoon
And a trip to the moon
Took me away
Took me away

I've been feeling so sick inside
Got to get better, Lord, before I die
Some doctors couldn't help my head, they said
You'd better quit, son, before you're dead

Quit the needle, quit the spoon
Quit the trip to the moon
They gonna take you away
Lord, they gonna take you away

It was the needle and the spoon

I've seen a lot of people who thought they were cool
But then again, Lord, I've seen a lot of fools
I hope you people, Lord, can hear what I say
You'll have your chance to hit it some day

Don't mess with a needle or a spoon
Or a trip to the moon
They'll take you away

Lord, their gonna bury you boy
Don't mess with the needle
Now I know, I know, I know, I know, I know
