Craig Strickland, lead singer and acoustic guitarist for country band Backroad Anthem, is still missing after a hunting trip that claimed the life of his friend Chase Morland. The men traveled to Oklahoma to go duck hunting Saturday and were declared missing after they failed to have contact with family for more than 24 hours.
A boat belonging to the men was found capsized late Sunday on Kaw Lake and an intense search has been underway since. Freezing weather made launching a search boat difficult, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and the docks had to be sanded before the search could begin. The body of 22-year old Morland was found in Kaw Lake, but Strickland has yet to be found.
Strickland, 29, recently celebrated his first anniversary with his wife, former Miss Arkansas, Helen Wisner. The two became engaged in 2014 when Strickland walked up on stage and proposed immediately after Wisner was crowned Miss Arkansas. Helen has posted regular updates from her Twitter account and shared Monday afternoon (Dec. 28) that her husband’s dog had been found safe, but that they are still searching for Craig. She also asked for continued prayers.
Craig's dog Sam has been found. His boat has been confirmed as being capsized. They are still searching for Craig. Please keep praying.— Helen Strickland (@HelenWisner) December 28, 2015
Backroad Anthem posted an update from Craig’s father, Randy Strickland, last night that read “The search has been called off for the night, bringing boat with sonar in morning. A friend gave me these words! We are trying to think of a scenario where he is still alive. Hoping against the odds. We can't even stand to think about it. We are devastated. Only God & time can put us back together. Love all!”
Just before Strickland and Morland went missing, Morland posted this ominous tweet, which Strickland retweeted from his own account:
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families of Craig Strickland and Chase Morland.
