Chris Stapleton  may have just made his big break into the spotlight, but the "Traveller" singer has a voice straight out of the classic country era.

Stapleton, who has been a well-established songwriter in Nashville for years, penned some of country's biggest hits in recent times, including "Never Wanted Nothing More" by Kenny Chesney and "Comeback Song" by Darius Rucker.

Following his performance with Justin Timberlake at the 49th annual CMA Awards in November, Stapleton suddenly found himself as one of the hottest names in country music. All of that attention earned him a spot performing at the famous music festival Coachella and a chance to perform on Saturday Night Live

The main reason Stapleton has generated so much attention is because of his truly unique sound, one that reminds us of the singers of the classic country era, like Waylon Jennings.

During a performance in Atlanta, Georgia on January 7, 2016, Stapleton paid tribute to Jennings by singing his number one hit, "I Ain't Living Long Like This."

"I Ain't Living Long Like This" was written by singer/songwriter Randy Crowell, and was originally recorded by him for his album of the same title. It was then recorded by Emmylou Harris in 1978 for her album, Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town. Jennings recorded his own version of the song a year later, releasing it as a single off of his album What Goes Around Comes Around.

The song claimed the number one spot on both the U.S. and Canadian charts, making it Jennings' 11th chart-topping hit. Even today, the song still maintains some popularity, and was featured as a track on the "Rebel Radio" station on the popular video game Grand Theft Auto V.

With his classic country sound, Stapleton is the perfect modern artist to perform Jenning's hit song. You can listen to his impressive cover in the video below.

LYRICS BELOW

I look for trouble and I found it son
Straight down the barrel of a lawman's gun
I tried to run but I don't think I can
You make one move and you're a dead man friend
Ain't living long like this
Can't live at all like this, can I baby?

He slipped the handcuffs on behind my back
And left me reeling on a steel reel rack
They got'em all in the jailhouse baby
Ain't living long like this
Can't live at all like this, can I baby?

Grew up in Houston off the wayside drives
Son of a carhop and some all night dives
Dad drove a stock car to an early death
All I remember was a drunk man's breath
Ain't living long like this
Can't live at all like this, can I baby?

You know the story how the wheel goes 'round
Don't let them take you to the man down town
Can't sleep at all in a jailhouse baby
Ain't living long like this
Can't live at all like this, can I baby?

I live with Angel she's a roadhouse queen
Makes Texas Ruby look like Sandra Dee
I want to love her but I don't know how
I'm at the bottom in the jailhouse now
Ain't living long like this
Can't live at all like this, can I baby?

You know the story about the jailhouse rock
Don't want to do it but just don't get caught
They got'em all in the jailhouse baby
Ain't living long like this
Can't live at all like this, can I baby?
