Released from her seventh studio album, the title track recalls painful memories for the singer.

"Piece By Piece" was debuted as the second single from Kelly Clarkson's latest album in November 2015. A mid-tempo pop ballad, the song was written by both Clarkson and her longtime producer Greg Kurstin and said to be written as a sequel to "Because Of You" but with a "happy ending".

The song idea was spurred from a conversation between Clarkson and her sister about their life as a family and their neglectful father. Clarkson states that she wrote the song about the pain that his absence caused, but brought a happy ending to the song reminding people facing the same issues that, like her, they can have a family life that's nothing like what they had experienced.

"I wrote "Piece By Piece" about the pain I, and so many children, feel who are abandoned by one of their parents. Thankfully, the song ends happily because I was fortunate enough to find a husband and create a family who help restore my faith in love and myself every day. I want to focus on the positive that comes from pain."

Along with that incredibly powerful statement from the award-winning songstress, she also welcomes fans to share their stories on her website and share the influential people in their lives that have helped them overcome challenges. "So help us fill in the puzzle below, piece by piece" she ends the invitation.

Check out this live performance of "Piece By Piece" where Clarkson discusses the story behind the song and head on over to her website to share your story!

LYRICS BELOW

And all I remember is your back
Walking towards the airport, leaving us all in your past
I travelled fifteen hundred miles to see you
Begged you to want me, but you didn’t want to

But piece by piece, he collected me up
Off the ground, where you abandoned things and
Piece by piece he filled the holes that you burned in me
Six years old and you know
He never walks away
He never asks for money
He takes care of me
He loves me
Piece by piece, he restored my faith
That a man can be kind and the Father could, stay

And all of your words fall flat
I made something of myself and now you wanna come back
But your love, it isn’t free, it has to be earned
Back then I didn’t have anything you needed so I was worthless

But piece by piece, he collected me up
Off the ground, where you abandoned things and
Piece by piece he filled the holes that you burned in me
Six years old and you know
He never walks away
He never asks for money
He takes care of me
'Cause he loves me
Piece by piece, he restored my faith
That a man can be kind and a father could, stay

Piece by piece
Piece by piece
Piece by piece

Piece by piece
Piece by piece
Piece by piece

Piece by piece I fell far from the tree
I will never leave her like you left me
And she will never have to wonder her worth
Because unlike you I’m going to put her first and you know
He’ll never walk away,
He’ll never break her heart
He’ll take care of things, he’ll love her
Piece by piece, he restored my faith
That a man can be kind and the Father should be great

Piece by piece
Piece by piece
Piece by piece
