"But you drug my heart through the Alabama dirt" is a prime example of the singer's knack for writing heartbreak ballads.

The third single from Billy Currington's latest album, Summer Forever, was written by himself and two close friends in an unexpected moment when inspiration struck. The track, "It Don't Hurt Like It Used To", takes cues from the singer's own past romance and ties in all the stages of heartbreak.

“I just stopped by to see a couple of buddies, Cary [Barlow] and Shy [Carter] one night. Cary and I picked up guitars at the same time and played basically the same chord, and the next thing you know we were writing the song," Currington revealed.

Trailing the success of his chart-topping masterpiece, "Don't It", the song has already received incredible praise from critics recently and is expected to bring even more success to the curly-haired country star.

Billy Dukes from Taste Of Country says, "The mid-tempo pop-country anthem feels urgent and is easily his best single yet from the Summer Forever album."

"It's a fist-pumping love song built for the live show," Dukes continues. That's great news for fans of the artist as he is preparing to go on tour with his fellow country singer, Kelsea Ballerini this year!

His single will be released to country radio on February 8th, 2016, while his Summer Forever Tour will launch shortly afterward, on the 19th.

LYRICS BELOW

I had a couple beers with one of my friends
Told him just how our story ends
Did all I could to try to make it work
But you drug my heart through the Alabama dirt

I've been out the house, climbin' them walls
Checkin' that calendar, exin' days off
Hit another bar, call another friend
Throw a few down, tell the story again

Hey, hey, what can I say?
I can just lie and say it's all okay
Oh-ho, what can I do?
Been goin' through Hell gettin' over you
But it don't hurt, it don't hurt like it used to
No it don't hurt, it don't hurt like it used to

I'm finally gettin' out back into the world
Life is good, I'll marry a girl
She got a beautiful heart, eyes are blue
I don't hardly ever think about you

Hey, hey, what can I say?
I can just lie and say it's all okay
Oh-ho, what can I do?
Been goin' through Hell gettin' over you
But it don't hurt, it don't hurt like it used to
But it don't hurt, it don't hurt like it used to

Sometimes I find peace of mind in a bottle of wine
Sometimes I break down and cry

Hey, hey, what can I say?
I can just lie and say it's all okay
Oh-ho, what can I do?
Been goin' through Hell gettin' over you

Hey, hey, what can I say?
I can just lie and say it's all okay
Oh-ho, what can I do?
Been goin' through Hell gettin' over you
But it don't hurt, it don't hurt like it used to
No it don't hurt, it don't hurt like it used to
No it don't hurt, it don't hurt like it used to

It don't hurt, it don't hurt like it used to
