Maddie & Tae may have released their debut studio country album less than a year ago, but they've already made a mark for themselves in the industry. The duo scored their first number one hit with their debut single, "Girl in a Country Song," and shook up the charts yet again with their second single, "Fly."
Released in January 2015, "Fly" was co-written by Maddie, Tae, and Tiffany Vartanyan. The song is meant to be inspirational, with the lyrics speaking about a girl who pushes herself to achieve success.
Tae explained the meaning behind the song, saying, "'Fly' is not about when the going's easy and the path's smooth. It's when everything's going wrong… when you're sure it's not going to happen… and somehow still take that step."
The song was met with positive reviews, and experienced great chart success, making a slow climb into the Top 10 and to claim the ninth spot on the Billboard Country Airplay and Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
Now, a year after the release of "Fly", Maddie and Tae have created a music video for the song, and it is nothing short of emotional.
Maddie & Tae often visit and perform at children's hospitals, and so they decided to feature some of the patients from Nashville’s Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in their video. In the video, Maddie & Tae dance around with the patients and show them how to play guitar. You can tell by the smiles on the children's faces that in those moments with Maddie & Tae, they felt like they could overcome their struggles and "fly."
"Seeing the light and joy in the eyes of the patients we were able to sing and play with would brighten anyone’s day," Tae said in a press release. "Knowing people find something encouraging in this music is the greatest gift we can be given."
