During his shows, Luke Bryan will often take a break from performing his own music to play a few country covers of popular songs from other genres. Over the years, he's covered everyone from Maroon 5 to Journey, but one of his all-time favorite artists to cover is Lionel Richie.
In 2010, Bryan performed at the LongHorn All Star Concert along with Jake Owen, Ashley Ray, and special guest Darius Rucker. At one point in the show, Bryan and Owen took to the stage to perform what Bryan called "A Lionel Richie two hour power hour." Without missing a beat, Owen started off singing the first part to Richie's hit single, "Stuck On You."
"Stuck On You" was released as a single off of Richie's dance-pop/R&B album Can't Slow Down in May 1984. Interestingly, the single is regarded as a country pop song, although the album as a whole is not considered as such. The song broke into the Top 25 on the country charts and ended up claiming the number one spot on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart.
Needless to say, the song is a popular one with audiences, and was a definite hit when Bryan and Owen performed their acoustic version of the song in 2010. Owen and Bryan took turns singing, but Owen let Bryan take on the primary vocal role.
You can tell from the passion and soul in Bryan's voice that the song is a favorite of his, and it's true! Bryan kept performing the song years after his duet with Owen, delivering one particularly impressive rendition in 2012.
Still, we'd have to say that Bryan's duet with Owen on "Stuck On You" is a favorite of ours, since the two of them work well together to create a unique version of Richie's classic hit.
You can watch Bryan and Owen perform "Stuck On You" in the video below.
We'd love to hear these two cover some more of Richie's hits, or simply perform together again!
