What remains a dream for most of us actually came true for Adkins. He was able to not only meet his hero, but become quite good friends with him. The two had spent a good amount of time together before Jones' passing in 2012 and from that came many great memories.
Adkins' recalled a moment the two shared that has since become one of his favorite memories. At one of Jones' birthday parties, Adkins made a comment that sent his friend into a fit of laughter that he wouldn't easily forget.
Jones had recently phased out a line of dog food he was sponsoring called George Jones Country Gold Dog Food, he also had become a sponsor for a line of George Jones-brand Sausages. Making light of the cancelled dog food line, Adkins poked fun at his friend mid-cake-bite.
"I was at his birthday party, and I had a moment where there’s not really a lot of people around us. And I just leaned over to him, and I said, ‘George, I know what you did with all that dog food you couldn’t sell. I know you put it in that sausage.’ He just started laughing and spitting cake. I’ll never forget that. That was the first time I ever made him gut laugh. He never did tell me whether I was right or not," he revealed to Rare Country.
These two country stars had many more good times, but this one obviously holds a special place in Adkins' heart. Jones' inspiration runs deep with the singer and he's even called out by name in his latest single "Jesus And Jones".
