Tragedy struck Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1977 when a plane carrying the band crashed into a forest.

Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines died on impact. The rest of the members, tour manager and road crew suffered serious injuries.

They were just five shows into their tour following the release of their album Street Survivors, which was released three days before the crash. Street Survivors became their second platinum album. The band took a hiatus following the tragedy.

In 1987, the band reunited with Ronnie's brother Johnny singing lead. That year, they released a compilation album, Legend. On it includes several unreleased demos from the albums before the 1977 plane crash, including "Georgia Peaches", which was never included on an album until now.

The song was written by Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines, and was also a bonus track on the 2001 reissue of Street Survivors.

"Georgia Peachesis a song about what men like so much about Southern girls, particularly the ladies from Georgia. From the way they talk a little funny, to the way they age like fine wine, they love it all.

Fun fact: Ronnie and his wife Judy were married in Waycross, Georgia.

Lyrics Below

Well, you can see her walkin' down on Peachtree Street
She got high-heeled shoes and a dot on her cheek
She's lookin' good, she's headed downtown
Ain't got no money, honey
She knows her way around
I think she's cute, think she's cute as she can be
Talkin' about a funny talkin', honk-tonking Georgia Peach

Well these Georgia Peaches
Son they know their way around
They can take your money, son before you get sight of town
Well they talk a little funny, but they look so fine
Nine out of ten of them gonna sell you a dime
I think they're cute, think they're cute as they can be
Talkin' about a funny talkin', honk-tonking Georgia Peach

Well, peaches, peaches
Love them Georgia Peaches
Well, peaches, peaches
Love them Georgia Peaches

Well them Georgia Peaches
Sure do got the style
They'll steal your heart with a Southern smile
Well they talk a little funny, but they look so fine
The older they get, I swear its like good wine
I think they're cute, think they're cute as they can be
Talkin' about a funny talkin', honk-tonking Georgia Peach
Talkin' about a funny talkin', honk-tonking Georgia Peach
