Toby Keith has suffered a devastating loss as longtime band member, Joey Floyd, passed away following a long battle with cancer. Keith made the announcement on Facebook with a touching post that read: "Our dear friend and band member Joey Floyd passed away this morning after a long battle with cancer. There will be a hole on stage and a hole in the hearts of all that loved him. Rest in peace ol' friend - Toby"
Floyd is credited with introducing Keith to Willie Nelson, a meeting that resulted in the chart-topping collaboration "Beer For My Horses." In addition to playing guitar, banjo, and fiddle for Toby Keith, Floyd also appeared as Willie Nelson's son in the 1980 movie Honeysuckle Rose.
Floyd's death is the second loss that Toby Keith's band has suffered in recent years. In 2013, Chuck Goff Jr., who played bass for Keith for 25 years, was killed in a car accident in Oklahoma.
Our prayers are with Joey Floyd's widow, Laurin, and his many friends and fans across the country.
