Carrie Underwood’s Husband Discusses Moving His Family From Nashville

It’s been a whirlwind year for Carrie Underwood and her husband, Mike Fisher. Underwood wrapped her highly successful Stories In The Round tour just as her husband kicked off his 17th year as a professional hockey player. 

Fisher, who served as captain for the Nashville Predators during the 2016-17 season, led his team to their first ever Stanley Cup final. After the season was over, fans anticipated a retirement announcement from the 37-year old. The announcement came at the beginning of August when Fisher penned a touching letter that was published in the Tennessean. 

“This is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but I know I’ve made the right one. I’ve decided to retire from the NHL,” Fisher wrote. “I kept praying for peace about the next step in my life. A peace that said this is God’s will for your future. A peace that said whether or not this was the right time to walk away. I don’t believe it came in a single instance or some aha moment, but as time passed, I gradually became certain that it was right for me to retire.”

In the months since, both Carrie and Mike have somewhat withdrawn from the spotlight, instead focusing on spending time together and with their 2-year old son, Isaiah. But, Tuesday night (October 10), Fisher made a surprise appearance at the Nashville Predators’ season opener at Bridgestone Arena where he joined his former teammates as they raised their Western Conference Championship banner to the rafters of Bridgestone Arena. 

In an interview following the banner raising, the native of Canada admitted that he occasionally gets the urge to play again, but there’s one thing that reminds him why he retired.

“Sometimes I think about missing the game, and then I look at [Isaiah],” Fisher said. “That’s really a big part of the reason, for sure, is being around and being in his life constantly.”

He’s also enjoyed having the freedom to attend church regularly and spending time with family and friends. Fisher also recently returned to his hometown in Ontario for a visit during Canadian Thanksgiving, something he hasn’t done in 20 years. When asked if his family would be staying in Music City or if he was considering a move back to Canada, Fisher answered without hesitation. 

“I love Nashville. I couldn’t see myself and our family anywhere else,” Fisher said. “Our child was born here and we plan on being here a long time.”

We’re glad to know that the Fisher family isn’t going anywhere. Music City wouldn’t be the same without them!
