Blake Shelton’s Powerful ‘God Gave Me You’ Will Warm Even The Coldest Of Hearts

While the song “God Gave Me You” was previously written and recorded in 2010 by Christian singer Dave Barnes, it was country singer Blake Shelton‘s cover of the passionate song that sent the work of art straight into the spotlight. Adding it to his 2011 released album Red River Blue, Shelton admitted that the powerful song deeply moved him and became the nudge he needed to propose to his now ex wife, Miranda Lambert. The crooner even incorporated Lambert’s private recording taken just hours before their wedding into the introduction of the music video, having acquired over 56 million views since its upload in September of 2011.

Shelton’s video consists of a basic plot that incorporates various individuals and showcases a specific person in their life that represents their gift from God. As the first scene revolves around a weary mother working to the bone to support her little girl, we are later transported to a horrific car accident in which the injured man’s gift from above is the medic saving his life.

The incredibly powerful video not only tells a very relatable story, but also urges viewers to look for influential figures beyond what we would automatically expect them to be, such as parents and friends. Shelton’s video emphasizes that sometimes the greatest gift can be from someone we have yet to formally meet.
