When talking about country music artists, fans sometimes throw out the term “legend” carelessly. But one artist who has undoubtedly earned the right to be referred to as a legend is the one and only Charley Pride.
In 1966, Charley entered the country music industry, and thus changed its course forever. As a black artist, it was a struggle for Pride in the early days of his career. Promoters hesitated to book him, fearful of how audiences would react.
But audiences fell in love with Pride and his talent, and he went on to become one of only three black members of the Grand Ole Opry, with DeFord Bailey and Darius Rucker being the others. He is a Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, has generated dozens of Top Ten hits, and just as many number ones.
Pride has secured his place in country music history, but how well do you remember his history? Take the quiz below to find out if you really know this country legend as well as you think!
