After placing in the Top 10 this weekend, the man taking Dale Jr.'s place got immediately transferred to the hospital following the race.
Both drivers giving the Nationwide Insurance No. 88 one great season, these two have been working closely together while Dale Earnhardt Jr. is out from a sever concussion.
In addition to Jeff Gordon coming out of retirement, Alex Bowman has been taking Dale Jr.'s place behind the wheel of the No. 88 for a majority of the races left in this season - and he's been doing a fine job, but that doesn't mean that he's invincible!
Just moments after finishing this weekend's Hollywood Casino 400, Bowman was transferred to the in-field hospital where they laid him out on a bed and stuck an IV in him with Dale Jr. arriving shortly after to support him.
The finish was the best of his career in the Sprint Cup, and he definitely gave all during this race and the others - but that seems to have taken a lot from him, and he seems to have caught a rather nasty stomach bug that left him severely dehydrated.
Sick and still killing it on the track?? Talk about one helluva teammate!
Dale Jr. sat beside his replacement in the hospital and snapped a photo of Bowman, still in his No. 88 driver's suit, getting recharged by the IV and applauding him for his performance and commitment.
