Claiming the NASCAR driver's team is "threatening scorched-earth litigation" the former sponsor of longtime driver, Danica Patrick has finally issued a statement addressing the massive lawsuit recently filed against them.
Earlier this year, Patrick's team, Stewart-Haas Racing, filed a lawsuit against her major sponsor, Nature's Bakery, that amounted to more than $31 million - and cited "breach of contract".
The team had issued a statement explaining the cause for legal action.
"Nature’s Bakery is in material breach of its contract with Stewart-Haas Racing. It is an unfortunate situation, as the team has delivered on all aspects of its contract and was prepared to do so again in 2017. Ultimately, this is a situation that will be resolved in a court of law."
And now, her former sponsor has fired back with their own statement and also revealed they plan to file a counter-claim against Stewart-Haas Racing.
In their statement, Nature's Bakery throws some strong words out describing the recent string of events, saying "We were thrown off by SHR's lawsuit....[they] are no stranger to aggressive litigation," calling the team's lawsuit a "recent false legal complaint".
Additionally, the snack food sponsor confesses that the surprise of the lawsuit was exacerbated because the two companies "were scheduled to meet in Charlotte just days before [SHR] sued us".
They continued on in their statement, asserting that "SHR is run by big-business types that took advantage of Nature's Bakery. They are now threatening scorched-earth litigation against a multigenerational family company" adding, "We're obviously not going to let them bully us."
The whole collapse of Danica Patrick's sponsorship deal with Nature's Bakery and Stewart-Haas Racing came as a shock and surprise to fans and the industry. It wasn't revealed that her sponsorship had officially ended until just weeks before the season was set to begin, leaving her in a tricky spot for the season.
Luckily for her, Ford stepped up and filled in the gap for a few races along with Aspen Dental and as it stands now, she looks set to go for the entire season.
In closing of the statement, Nature's Bakery revealed their feelings for Danica's future and the sport as a whole.
"We obviously are disappointed in how things turned out, but we wish Danica Patrick and her new Ford team much success on the track this year. We are always going to be NASCAR fans and support the good works that it represents."
