Country singer Rhiannon Giddens is living a dream come true right now. That's because she recently signed on to join the cast of Nashville for its upcoming fifth season.
After Nashville was cancelled by ABC, fans rallied to save the show. When CMT saw how loyal Nashville's fans were, they decided to pick up the series for its fifth season, which will kick off on January 5th.
On Thursday (September 2), the show tweeted that they were participating in their first table read for the new season. One photo showed some of fans' favorite actors, including Charles Esten, Chris Carmack, and sister duo Lennon & Maisy.
Giddens is one of the new faces in the cast lineup, and is set to play a recurring character named Hanna Lee "Hallie" Jordan, who CMT describes as "a young social worker who turns out to have the voice of an angel."
There's no doubt that Giddens has the voice for the role. She's been active in the music industry since 2005, and is the lead singer, violinist, and banjo player in the Grammy-winning country-blues group Carolina Chocolate Drops. Giddens released her first solo album in 2015 called Tomorrow is My Turn, which claimed the top spot on the Billboard Folk Albums chart.
Giddens shared the news of her new role in Nashville through a snapshot she took with Esten. "Never did I see this day coming, years ago when I fangirled over @CharlesEsten on Whose Line," she wrote.
It's clear that Giddens is excited to kick off the next season of Nashville with her new co-stars. We know she'll do a great job at her part, because she's one talented artist. Check out her cover of Patsy Cline's "She's Got You" to see what we mean.
What do you think, will Giddens make a good addition to the Nashville cast?
