Miley Cyrus & Blake Shelton Fight Over 15-Year Old On ‘Voice’ Season Premiere

‘The Voice’ is back and we couldn’t be more excited! Season 11 of the reality singing competition kicked off tonight (September 19) and if the first round of blind auditions is any indication, we’re in for one heck of a season.

Pop stars Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys have joined Adam Levine and Blake Shelton on the judging panel making it the first time two women have occupied the red chairs. At the end of the first round of blind auditions, both Miley and Blake scored three team members each, while Alicia Keys acquired four, and Adam Levine gained one.

But, it’s one member of Team Blake that has us all talking. 15-year old Gabe Broussard, a singer, songwriter, and keyboard player from Lafayette, Louisiana, caught the attention of Blake and Miley right away with his soulful rendition of “Lonely Night In Georgia.”

“You don’t sound 15. You sound like you’ve lived a lot of life and you have a lot of stories in your voice,” coach Miley Cyrus told Broussard.

But it was Blake Shelton who won Broussard over by saying, “When you started singing you sounded like such a freakin’ stud. I couldn’t believe it. Of course I’m gonna hit my button. You’re the guy I’ve been waiting for,” Blake said. “And then to find out that you’re 15 years old, Gabe. I mean, come on. I think musically we probably have a lot in common. Man, I want you on my team bad, dude. I think we could have an incredible run.”

With little hesitation, Broussard chose to be a member of Team Blake, a decision his family was thrilled about.

According to his Facebook page, the teen’s parents knew he had a gift long before he could speak a word.

“My parents said that I would hum commercials that I had heard before I even said one word,” Broussard wrote. “When I was two, my favorite movie was Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang. I watched it over and over and especially liked the music in it. When I was 6, I begged for a guitar, but my parents thought that I was not ready. They finally gave in at eight and bought me my first electric guitar.”

The rest is history, as they say, although Broussard’s story is just beginning.

Listen to 15-year old Gabe Broussard in his ‘Voice’ debut in the video below and let us know what you think. Does he have what it takes to win season 11?
