Country music television drama, Nashville, will return with Season Five on its new home CMT January 2017 along with a few fresh new faces. CMT announced that Joseph David-Jones and Cameron Scoggins will be joining the cast, bringing with them their own set of dirty laundry to Music City U.S.A.
David-Jones will be taking on the role of Clay, a cunning young musician whose, according to Taste of Country, “musical style is eclectic, with modern elements but also nods to African-American roots music, bluegrass and even classic country.” You may remember him from the final chapter of the Divergent series, Allegiant.
Scoggins, the second addition to the Nashville family, is set to play Rayna Jaymes superfan Zach Welles. Zach is a computer tech billionaire hailing from Silicon Valley who offers an exciting business proposition to Rayna that may lead down a dark path if she chooses to accept. Prior to Nashville, Scoggins appeared on The Good Wife, Elementary, and The Blacklist.
Former Disney Channel star Bridgit Mendler was previously introduced as Ashley Wilkenson, “a young and beautiful YouTube sensation who is about to record her first album." In addition, Jen Richards is also set to join the cast as the first transgender actress on CMT in the role of a physical therapist.
All principle characters are set to return minus Will Chase (Luke Wheeler) and Aubrey Peebles (Layla Grant). The season five two-hour premiere will take place Thursday Jan. 5.
