It's clear that Joey + Rory's story touched plenty of hearts. Many have been inspired by the strength and courage that Joey showed throughout her cancer battle, and so her legacy lives on.
As Joey grew weaker, her love for her faith remained strong. On February 12, 2016, Joey + Rory released their final studio album, Hymns that Are Important to Us, which featured some of their all-time favorite hymns.
Joey had worked on recording the album while she was receiving cancer treatments, proving how dedicated she was to her craft. Since she passed away, fans have turned back to Hymns in order to remember her and her beautiful talent.
A television special was filmed about a year ago to go along with the album, and it is that special that was recently honored in a huge way.
The Gospel Music Association is a prestigious organization that supports and promotes gospel music. One way the organization goes about doing this is through The Dove Awards, which recognize major accomplishments in the genre.
As Rory revealed in a photo he shared to the Joey + Rory Facebook page, the GMA recognized Joey's legacy in a big way when they gave the couple the award for Long Form Video of the year.
Director Daniel Grace and producers Aaron Carnahan, Joel McAfee, and Bill Gaither were also recognized. "So proud of the work they've done and even more proud to be their friend," Rory wrote.
We're sure Joey would be proud as well. Even though she's gone, she's continuing to make an impact in the world, all because of her beautiful voice. May she rest in peace.
