The 2016 PBR Canada champion who often competed in the United States has passed away.
25-year-old Merritt, British Columbia-based professional bull rider Ty Pozzobon died suddenly on Monday (Jan. 9). According to Kamloops This Week, his death is "not considered to be suspicious and the investigation has been turned over to the BC Coroners Service."
“Ty Pozzobon was a cowboy through and through and loved being a professional bull rider,” PBR CEO Sean Gleason said in a statement. “His infectious personality and enthusiasm for doing what he loved touched so many of us, and we will remember him always.”
According to the PBR website, Pozzobon's last professional ride in the states was on November 2, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2016 Built Ford Tough World Finals, where he placed 4th.
He was projected to be a contender for a PBR World title in 2017.
Funeral arrangements are pending, and PBR will celebrate his life at an event this coming weekend in Chicago, Illinois.
He is survived by his parents Luke and Leanne, his sister, Amy, and his wife, Jayd. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Pozzobon's family and friends during this time.
