Reba McEntire Now Has A Huge Reason To Be Proud Of Her Son Shelby

Oftentimes celebrity kids will follow in their parents’ famous footsteps, and end up pursuing their chosen field. Just look at the children of country music singers, such as Vince Gill‘s daughter Jenny or Charley Pride‘s son Dion. But when it came time for Reba McEntire‘s son Shelby Blackstock to pick his path, he decided to make his own. 

While music is Reba’s calling, her son was drawn to the racing world. He started his racing career while he was still in college, and eventually dropped out to pursue it full-time.

In the years that he’s been racing, Shelby has generated quite the list of accomplishments. 2011 was a good year for him, especially when it came to the Skip Barber Summer Series. He achieved two wins during that series and ended up finishing fourth in the point standings.

Shelby’s 2014 was also filled with great accomplishments. He placed fourth in the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, with a total of six podium finishes and ten top-five drives. In addition, he obtained a win, three podiums, one pole, and one fastest lap at the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.

After all of the success that he’s experienced so far, Shelby is ready to take a big step to further his career. It was announced that he is now going to participate in the Toyota Racing Series, which kicks off in Ruapuna, New Zealand, on January 14th. Shelby’s involvement in the series is particularly notable since it marks his international racing debut.

Blackstock is looking forward to this next step in his career, telling Stuff Sport that he’s especially excited about being in New Zealand.

“I’m very excited to be racing in the Castrol Toyota Racing Series and to have the pleasure of returning to New Zealand,” he said. “I have travelled there a couple of times and absolutely loved everything about the experience.”

Reba has always been vocal about how proud she is of Shelby and all of his accomplishments. So we’re sure she must be beaming with pride over his latest career move!
