Southern sweetheart Carrie Underwood reached her stardom after being discovered on, and ultimately winning, Season 4 of Fox’s hit competition show American Idol. Since her victory, she has released seven albums, all of which went number one on the country chart, and all but two went number one on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.

Her talent and “Good Girl” image, despite some of her sassier songs, have been admired by aspiring musicians worldwide, identifying Underwood as their inspiration and idol. With that in mind, it was no surprise when 11-year-old Chloe Channell, an aspiring country singer, chose to perform Underwood’s hit song “All-American Girl” on the coveted stage during the America’s Got Talent season eight auditions.

Although she was dressed to the nines in a soft pink dress and flawless curls, the Florida native admitted, I’m not such a girly girl… Like, I don’t like getting my hair done and makeup on. I’d rather go outside and play and hunt.”

The judging panel asked what she hopes to do in this performance, and Channell replied, “I just wanna see people smile. That’s all I can ask for.”

And that they did!

As if Channell’s adorable explanation of “hunting camps” and shooting regulations weren’t enough, her talent absolutely floored the audience. The crowd quickly rose to their feet, thoroughly enjoying the young singer’s undeniable talent and clapped along to the beat.

The judges remained absolutely baffled throughout the performance, with Howie Mandel exclaiming, “I believe that you, young lady, have a career ahead of you. You’re gonna be able to afford guns, and tents… dead animals; any little girl could ever hope for!”

While Channell didn’t end up winning America’s Got Talent, her singing career didn’t end there. Over the years, she has been working on her craft, and this year, she auditioned for American Idol and blew the judges away.

Now 16 years old, Channell auditioned with the help of 90s country singer Billy Dean, and earned a well-deserved spot in the next round of competition.

We’re happy to see she hasn’t given up her dream. Flashback five years and watch her AGT audition below!
