Billy Ray Cyrus & John Berry Share Emotional Moment As They Recall Decades-Old Memory

Grammy Award-winning country artist John Berry recently launched his national television show Songs and Stories with John Berry. Featuring guests such as Clay Walker, Neal McCoy and Collin Raye, Berry gives the artists an opportunity to share the stories behind some of their greatest songs. 

In a recent taping for the show, the “Your Love Amazes Me” singer sat down with fellow country star Billy Ray Cyrus to recall some of their favorite memories from their early days in the industry. In a candid moment caught on tape, Berry became emotional as he shared his first memory of Cyrus. 

The moment happened during Berry’s first Fan Fair (now called CMA Music Fest) in 1993 following the release of his debut album. Berry, then an unknown artist, recalled sitting at his booth alone. Just two booths down was Billy Ray Cyrus’s booth where people were lined up “for 2.3 miles or something” hoping to meet the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer. 

“You came to your booth and it went nuts. You spent time with every one of those people.
 Berry remembered. “But, what was really amazing was these siamese twins came up in a wheelchair, a walker type thing. There was nobody with them, and you sat and talked to them like there was nobody else in the room.That just meant the world to me.”

Emotional, Berry continued, “To see this guy who had this screamin’ song. Thousands of people wanting to speak to you. But, you took the time, you came out from around your table, and you sat down where you could see each one of them and speak to them and embrace them. It was a moving moment.”
