When country fans think “duo,” the first two names they think of are Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. Already successful enough as individuals, Twitty and Lynn combined their talents and experience in order to create an unforgettable duo.

They were unstoppable as well, as the two of them generated one hit duet after another. Unable to ignore their influence, the CMA named Twitty and Lynn as the Vocal Duo of the Year for four consecutive years.

Out of Twitty and Lynn’s many hit duets, there is one that stands out from the bunch. That song is “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man,” which many consider to be one of the best duets ever recorded in country music

Twitty and Lynn released “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” in 1973, and it didn’t take long for it to reach the top spot on the country chart. In doing so, the song became Twitty and Lynn’s third number one as a duo.

Because of its important status in the scheme of country music history, many artists have performed their own renditions of “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.” It’s a popular song to cover live, which is exactly what country star Mickey Guyton did when she stopped by The Basement East in Nashville.

Guyton was joined by fellow country singer Charlie Worsham, who she has been a fan of for a while. As Guyton said in a post on Instagram, “I remember first spotting Charlie at tavernnashville back in 2011 when I moved here and totally fan-girling but being way too nervous to say anything.

Goes to show how much can change with time, because the two brought things “full circle” to sing together at The Basement East. Guyton shared a short clip of their performance on her social media accounts, and it’s a blast to watch.

Anyone who has heard “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” before knows that the song has a lot of pep in its step. If a singer fails to tackle it with enthusiasm, the whole thing falls flat.

But that didn’t happen with Guyton and Worsham. Leading the charge and taking on Lynn’s parts in the song, Guyton brought an overwhelming amount of spunk to her performance. Not only did that make the whole thing more entertaining to watch, but it got the crowd involved as well!

Fans are quickly learning that Guyton is a force to be reckoned with in the country music world. Her first two singles, “Better than You Left Me” and “Heartbreak Song” both made their way into the Top 50 on the U.S. Country Airplay chart. The success of those two songs helped Guyton earn a 2016 ACM nomination for New Female Vocalist of the Year.

Now Guyton has a brand new single for everyone to enjoy. Titled “Nice Things,” Guyton wrote on Instagram that the song “shows the more vulnerable side of my voice and the reason that I fell in love with country music.”

When you’re done with that, enjoy Guyton and Worsham’s performance of “Lousianna Woman, Mississippi Man” below. This duet proves why Guyton is perfectly poised to become one of country music’s biggest stars.
