It’s hard to believe that it’s almost been a year since country singer Craig Strickland went missing following a hunting trip that turned into a tragedy.

Craig, the lead singer of country group Backroad Anthem, and his friend, Chase Morland, went missing after they left on a hunting trip on December 27. Chase’s body was found the following day, but the search for Craig prolonged into the next week.

All the while, Craig’s wife, Helen, remained hopeful that he would be found alive. But sadly, Craigs’s body was discovered on January 4. After the autopsy results came back three months later, it was determined that Craig passed away as a result of hypothermia.

Despite the devastating loss she suffered, Helen has remained strong. She credits her faith with helping her through this tough time in her life, and feels comfort in knowing that Craig is in a better place.

In the past, Helen has also helped herself cope by writing notes to Craig to let him know how she much she loves him. Before Craig was buried, Helen penned a heartfelt note to him that she stuck in his jacket pocket, saying, “You were my person and the love of my earthly life.

Tuesday (November 29) would have been Craig and Helen’s second wedding anniversary. But instead of sharing a happy celebration with her husband, Helen found herself alone, reflecting on the life they shared together. Just like she did on the day of Craig’s funeral, Helen decided to write a note to Craig for their anniversary, and what she wrote will break your heart.

Helen shared her note to Craig on Instagram along with a slideshow of some photos from their wedding. She started off her note by praying for God to continue to give her strength, before she shared some loving words for Craig:

“Happy Anniversary Craig Michael. I will miss you every step of the way in this life…but I am thankful that I can always look back on the precious memory of our marriage with love in my heart. I can be thankful because you are with our Father…meaning I can find peace knowing that since we are both His, you both are mine.”

It’s clear from Helen’s note just how powerful her love for Craig was, and still is. We’re continuing to keep her and all of Craig’s loved ones in our prayers.
