Sunday, February 12 is a huge day for the entire music industry. The 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards is taking place and country music will be well-represented.
Urban is nominated for three awards - Best Country Solo Performance, Best Country Song, and Best Country Album, and would normally be accompanied by his wife, Nicole Kidman, but due to scheduling conflicts, she is unable to attend.
She has been having great success with her film Lion and is nominated for a BAFTA, which is the British Oscars. Both the Grammys and the BAFTA Awards are on the same day, but one little lady was quick to step in for Kidman to be Urban's date at the Grammys- their 8-year-old daughter, Sunday.
"'I'll go with dad to the GRAMMYs!'" Kidman told Ellen DeGeneres of her daughter's reaction to the conflict, when she stopped by the comedienne's talk show. Degeneres thought it would be a fantastic idea for their daughter to accompany Urban on one of the biggest nights of the year.
The Australian actress, however, has a huge reason for not letting their young daughter attend the awards show.
"She's eight and they use inappropriate language, Ellen!" she said.
Just because they won't be there in person at each other's events, doesn't mean they won't support each other from afar.
"We couldn't believe it. It's an amazing thing to be honored in both our fields in the same night at the same time," Kidman told a reporter on the red carpet at the SAG Awards. "I would so love to be there grooving to his tunes, you know?"
Watch her explain her reasoning to DeGeneres below.
