For months now, country fans have been turning up Trace Adkins' single "Jesus and Jones," his first release since his 2013 single, "Watch the World End." But now, Adkins has another new song for his fans to enjoy. Called "Lit," the single will serve as the second one off of Adkins' upcoming untitled album.
Adkins debuted "Lit" during a live performance for Fox & Friends as part of the show's All-American Summer concert series. The crowd couldn't seem to get enough of Adkins' fiery new song, and if their response is a good enough indication, we have a feeling it's destined to become Adkins' next big hit.
Written by the talented songwriting team of Monty Criswell, Derek George and Mickey Jack Cones, "Lit" takes on the fun-loving country boy vibe that has become the signature style of many of Adkins' songs over the years. The term "Lit" refers to multiple things in the song, such as "Grandpa fishin’ with dynamite" and "a little Sunday morning brimstone from a Pentecostal pastor."
But as Adkins sings along, he reveals that the main thing that makes him feel "lit" is the love of a good woman. Hitting the song's chorus, he sings about his special lady, saying, "So hot you got me smokin'/Girl, you got it going /Oh, you're the only one with the kiss that gets me lit."
If you're trying to search for a hidden meaning in "Lit," you're going to emerge from your search empty-handed. As Adkins told his fans during a Facebook Live session about the song, it's simply something fun to listen to.
"It's just a fun song," he said. "It's a fun, up-tempo romp. Don't look for the deep, profound meaning in this one cause there's not one there. It's just fun."
If you don't want to be the last one to enjoy the fun of "Lit," you can download it on Apple Music here. While you're at it, enjoy watching Adkins' Fox & Friends performance of the song in the video below.
