This heart-melting ballad is a piece of country music history that will live on forever. Its universal message, family values, and relatable feelings bring it a rich, meaningful texture that pulls at your heartstrings and just doesn’t want to let go.

Trace Adkins has a natural talent for putting grit, heart, and soul into each and every one of his masterpiece tracks and this chart-topping crossover hit is absolutely no exception!

Penned by several of the most prominent songwriters in Nashville, Adkins knew he had to cut this track the moment he heard it. Taking a page out of his life with him being the father of five daughters, the message really hit home.

“You’re Gonna Miss This” was released in January 2008 and became Adkins’ third No. 1 country hit, crossing genres and landing squarely in the Top 20 on both Billboard’s Hot 100 and its Pop 100 charts.

The song is written about a woman going through various points in her life (childhood, young adulthood, and motherhood) but involved in situations many people would take for granted. The message resonates with the chorus following each verse that describes a new stage in life.

“You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this”

The song was inspired by a moment experienced by one of the writers when a repairman came to fix something at his home and his two little ones were running around being kids and taking the repairman’s tools. He realized then that although this wasn’t an ideal moment, it was one that should be cherished…because one day he would miss it.

Watch Trace Adkins melt every heart in the audience with his emotional and spectacular performance of “You’re Gonna Miss This” at the Grand Ole Opry
