In 2008, everyone in country music was talking about one powerful song. Called “In Color,” the tune was released by Jamey Johnson off of his album That Lonesome Song.

“In Color” went on to become Johnson’s first Top 10 hit, peaking at the 9th spot on the chart. Country music couldn’t get enough of the song, which both the ACM and CMA awarded the Song of the Year award.

But few people know that the song was not originally intended for Johnson. Although he co-wrote the song, he actually had it set up to give to Trace Adkins for his then-upcoming album.

Before Adkins recorded the tune, Johnson had a change of heart and asked for permission to record it himself. Adkins agreed, and that’s how Johnson’s recording came to be.

Adkins still decided to record his own rendition of “In Color,” and featured it as an iTunes exclusive track off of his album, X. Thank goodness Adkins continued to go through with his plans to record the song, because we think it’s an ideal fit for him and his voice.

With past releases such as “Arlington” and “You’re Gonna Miss This,” Adkins proved that he was capable of singing humble songs about humble situations and people.

Adkins proved that same thing once more with his rendition of “In Color.” His version of the song is sure to soothe your soul when you listen to it in the clip below.
