Honoring The Work Of Hank Cochran

Country music lost one of its greatest songwriters on July 15, 2010 when Hank Cochran left this world.

Cochran was responsible for penning some of the most memorable songs in country music, including Patsy Cline‘s number one hit “I Fall to Pieces.”

Jamey Johnson was deeply affected by Cochran’s passing. To honor Cochran and the legacy he created, Johnson devoted an entire album to him.

Called Living for a Song, all of the tracks on the album were written or co-written by Cochran.

Some of the biggest names in country music joined Johnson as featured vocalists on the album. George Strait, Willie Nelson, and Lee Ann Womack were just a few of the talented artists that offered their vocal talent to Living for a Song.

“The Hag” Joins Jamey For Patsy Cline Cover

Our favorite song off of the album has to be Johnson’s version of “I Fall to Pieces.” Merle Haggard joined him as the guest vocalist on the track, which is one of the best versions of “I Fall to Pieces” that we’ve ever heard.

Johnson and Haggard’s voices both have that rugged, raw sound that works well on emotional songs like “I Fall to Pieces.” So you can only imagine how the two of them sound singing the tune together…it’s pure perfection.

Words can’t begin to describe their rendition. It is equal parts heartbreaking and mesmerizing, making it a song worth listening to again and again.

Go ahead and click on the clip below to listen to these two talented artists honor one of Nashville’s finest songwriters. You’ll be left in awe of what you hear.
