Two days after the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack on Israel, which left over 1,000 people dead and around 250 taken hostage, Israel and Hamas settled on a ceasefire deal.

On Wednesday (October 8), President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to begin implementing the first phase of his proposed peace plan for Gaza.

The announcement followed a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on September 29, during which Trump presented a 20-point framework to end the conflict.

Under the first phase of the agreement, fighting in Gaza will pause, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) will begin a partial withdrawal, Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners will be released, and humanitarian aid deliveries will be significantly increased.

All Living Israeli Hostages Freed From Gaza

On Monday (October 13), all surviving hostages remaining in Gaza were returned to Israel. The final group of 13 Israelis were escorted across the border by the IDF and taken to reunite with family.

Only immediate family members were permitted to meet the freed hostages at an Israeli military facility where they will undergo medical checks.

The IDF shared photos on their social media platforms showing hostages being welcomed back into Israel.

Amid the news of the freed hostages, President Donald Trump addressed the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, sharing that “the long and painful nightmare is finally over.”

“Generations from now, this will be remembered as the moment that everything began to change,” President Donald Trump said during his address Monday.

Trump’s speech was briefly interrupted by an opposition parliament member holding up a sign that read, “Recognise Palestine.”

“After two harrowing years in darkness and captivity, 20 courageous hostages are returning to the glorious embrace of their families,” Trump said. “Twenty-eight more precious loved ones are coming home at last to rest in this sacred soil for all of time. And after so many years of unceasing war and endless danger, today the skies are calm, the guns are silent, the sirens are still, and the sun rises on a Holy Land that is finally at peace.”

During his time in the Middle East, Trump will also attend a peace summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and other world leaders.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
