Since the tradition began in 1809 with Dolly Madison, the wife of James Madison, the fourth president of the United States, the inaugural ball has become a customary event during presidential inaugurations.
This year, Donald Trump shared a dance with his wife, Melania Trump, to the song “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Sergeant Henry Waller Spoke Out About His Experience Dancing With Melania Trump
Sergeant Henry Waller was chosen to dance with First Lady Melania. When the Sergeant was asked about what he was thinking during the historic moment he said:
“When I walked out on stage, I was trying to contain my composure, but we were told that it’s not like ceremonial composure. We can smile if we want to, and I was just overwhelmed with joy being out on the stage.”
Then the reporter asked him if he had a conversation with the First Lady. He said they had and shared their short conversation. He said, “I asked her how her night was going. She said it was going good. She asked me how mine was. I said it was fantastic.”
He was then asked if she was a good dancer and he simply said, “Oh, yeah, she’s a really good dancer.”
Then the reporter asked, “Did you get to rehearse?”
He shared they had not rehearsed and then said, “The only rehearsing I did was back home with my wife, dancing with her.”
President Donald Trump danced with Tatiana Saldana from the United States Space Force. She was not interviewed.
Vice President JD Vance danced with Staff Sergeant Lexus Martinez of the United States Marine Corps, who was interviewed and had a lot to say about her own dancing skills.
She said, “I was very nervous because I’ve never done anything like that before.”
Then the reporter asked her the same question, saying, “Is he a good dancer?”
She responded humorously, “Better than me. Better than me. I was so nervous, I probably looked like I had two left feet.”
