On May 9th, Blake Shelton released his first studio album in four years. The album is titled For Recreational Use Only and features his widely popular single “Texas,” which is a nod to George Strait.
Shelton released “Texas” in November 2024 before announcing his album. His single was different from his previous work.
Shelton shared that his single felt like the perfect start to the next chapter of his career. He shared,
“This is the perfect opportunity to come back with something so different, and it easily felt like it should be the first single. It’s connected with what I’ve done but moves forward at the same time, and it’s the perfect start to the next chapter of my career.”
Now, fans know he was hinting at his new album. See the full setlist below.
“Stay Country or Die Tryin’“
“Texas“
“Hangin’ On” (feat. Gwen Stefani)
“Strangers“
“Let Him In Anyway“
“Heaven Sweet Home” (feat. Craig Morgan)
“Life’s Been Comin’ Too Fast“
“Don’t Mississippi“
“All of My Love“
“Cold Can”
“The Keys”
“Years” (feat. John Anderson)
Although it is clear that Shelton wanted to take a new leap in this stage of his career, he did release a single ahead of his album that is very traditional Blake Shelton.
The song is titled “Stay Country or Die Tryin’,” and it not only sounds like Shelton’s backlog of work but also follows the themes of God, Country, and southern living.
Some of the patriotic song’s lyrics are,
“From the red, white, and blue
Flying high at the farm
To the Boone and Crockett stud on the wall in the barn
Where the magnolias bloom
There’s a lab on the lawn
Where your buddy and your boat both got the name John
In God, we trust.”
He even performed the song at the 2025 American Music Awards. Watch below.

Blake Shelton’s New Music Video
A week ahead of the 4th of July, Shelton released a music video for his hit single.
The video takes viewers into “country living” with scenes featuring a charming farmhouse and surrounding farmland. The music video depicts several generations living on the same land, illustrating the passage of time through a tree—the day it was planted and its eventual growth to maturity. It also emphasizes the passage of time by showcasing the quaint farmhouse across multiple generations.
It also tells the story through a transition from black and white to color. The entire music video is a tribute to country living and the generations that preceded us.
Love it or hate it? Blake Shelton’s new music video is 100% AI.
The video conveys a strong message and features a beautiful story. To be able to achieve this effect, the video seems to have been created using AI.
There are moments when the video feels “off.” For example, in a wedding scene, the guests’ faces appear distorted. Blake was added to the music video in post-production, or the editing phase of the video. In multiple scenes, you can see him leaning against a tree, and at moments, he physically blends into the bark.
The house also seems to be an AI rendering. To effectively illustrate the powerful theme of the passage of time, AI was likely the best option for creation.
So love it or hate it, you can watch the video below.
